SHIELDED LAB
Shielded Lab: List
PRIMARY USE
The shielded lab isolates an entire room from the Earth's magnetic field for safe stable material storage and improved measurements.
CONSTRUCTION
The shielded lab is a multi-layered box of nickel-iron alloy called permalloy. This material has a very high relative permeability, resulting in a low reluctance path for magnetic flux to follow. In other words, the magnetic field follows the surface of the shield, rather than continuing through on it's original path. It reduces the field inside the lab from ~60,000nT to 200nT.
SPECIAL
CONSIDERATIONS
The interior of the shielded lab must be kept free of magnetic sources, including the reasonable removable of all electronic and metal devices. Health considerations must be made for those with pacemakers.
